Gene Therapy
Our product portfolio also includes a variety of gene therapy products that, we believe, may offer advancements in the field of cancer treatment and may have additional applications in certain non-cancer diseases such as diabetes, cystic fibrosis and other auto-immune disorders.
Pursuant to a co-development agreement with the Royal Free and University College Medical School and a Canadian biotechnology company, we are developing gene vector technologies which, based on pre-clinical research and early Phase I clinical trials, we believe have potential in a wide array of clinical conditions. To date, the technology has undergone small-scale clinical testing with the albumin and thrombopoietin genes. The results showed the technology is capable of producing a prolonged elevation in serum albumin levels in cancer and cirrhosis patients with hypo-albuminemia, a serious physiological disorder.
