Bioenvision Shareholders Approve Acquisition by Genzyme Corporation+more

Bioenvision is now a fully owned subsidiary of Genzyme Corporation.

Genzyme is pleased to announce that a majority of Bioenvision shareholders voted on October 22 in favor of Genzyme’s acquisition of the company.

This merger will accelerate the clinical research of clofarabine as an important treatment for acute leukemia, leveraging the successful development by Bioenvision in Europe and Genzyme in the United States.

The acquisition will also facilitate access to clofarabine for physicians and patients by leveraging Genzyme’s local presence in 90 countries.

The points of contact for your current local Bioenvision representative remains the same. The telephone numbers for placing an order, requesting medical information or reporting information on product quality or adverse events have now changed.

We remain committed to providing you access to important cancer therapy for your patients.

Clofarabine, registered as Evoltra in Europe and as Clolar in the United States is indicated for the treatment of relapsed/refractory ALL in pediatric patients.

Genzyme is conducting clinical trials investigating clofarabine as a monotherapy for older adult AML patients unlikely to benefit from standard chemotherapy and as a key component to combination regimens for the treatment of pediatric and adult leukemia patients.
